Domestic violence and sexual assault are two of the most common crimes.

  • An estimated two to four million American women are abused each year by their partners.
  • Thirty to forty percent of teenagers have experienced physical violence in their dating relationships.
  • One in three females and one in six males will be sexually assaulted before the age of 18.
  • Twenty-one percent of all women who need hospital emergency surgical services were battered.
  • In one-half of spouse-abusing families, the children are battered as well.

These statistics point to an urgent need to educate community members about these topics. Albion Center staff can speak to your community, church or school group and to law enforcement, clergy and medical personnel about domestic violence and sexual assault. Audience members will learn facts that will help them reduce their risk of being victimized and enable them to empathize with and support friends, co-workers or family members who have been touched by these issues.

Albion’s community education programs, like all of our services are free. The presentations and workshops can be altered (in subject matter, length and material used) to meet the needs of your organization or classroom.
